REFLECTIVE REPORT HTH PBL
Name: Mayur Soneji
Critical Friend: Neha Babi
I was on the verge of giving up when I received a mail from my CF saying HAVE FAITH. I am a fan of PBL in the classroom. True Project Based Learning is a process that puts the student at the center of their learning.
Resistance/ Resistance/ Resistance are the three words that describes my initial attitude of HTH PBL Training.
My essential question was " What is more important - raising the bar for students or going down to their level? We will discover that the question is answered in the journey. In my research I discovered that the question has two aspects: Relation and Academics. It is necessary to go down to their level in relationship to raise the bar for Academics.
We had a Session on Questioning Skills which helped me to go down to their level. A Student of Std 2 had behavioral issues in Class. I was asked to intervene. I counseled him and the next day again there was a complain. The boy said but sir I didnt beat anyone, I was only shouting. The next day he said I didnt fight, I didnt shout, I was only running around. Based on Questioning skills and My essential question research, Ron Berger's book for creating Culture helped me to solve many such issues.
I discovered that Teaching is not doing a Project for syllabus but a syllabus learned in a Project Way. I have learnt to share with students, involve and collaborate with students and other educators in my teaching. From Self driven to student driven learning.
In a session with students about how to critique a student work Poster on Do or Die campaign, I was surprised at the warm and cool comments they shared like: He has done better than what I could have done, Little more thinking was required.
Power of Protocols is a powerful book and saw its work in every collegial conversation. Most difficult part for me was to Plan a Project for the children I deal with who are slow learners, have little or no language skills etc. I will be doing my Project in June " Constructing from Unknown to Known". The Collegial Conversation showed me the aspect where I underestimate my student and got appreciation on how well I know my students. In collegial conversation people are hard on the content and soft to the person.
The training has installed in me the long lost habit of reading. I have read more than 30 books this year. The Training gave me an opportunity to reflect on any work done with colleagues. Reading ‘Protocols’ for me has been an enriching experience. It helped me reflect upon all my actions, successes and failures, perceived successes and perceived failures. Take charge of our own learning. Pause periodically . Protocol based learning- making work transparent and enriching learning.
I aim to build a classroom environment which encourages and motivates students to learn and challenge themselves.
A classroom where students are constantly engaged in activities where they have to collaborate, think creatively and at the same time are able to make connections with their curriculum , other subjects and the real world.
I worked on these areas:
Create confidence in students
Help them in Reading, Writing and Speaking
Help students understand PBL .
Independent learning (If Possible)which is an essential 21st century Skills.
Create Happy Classrooms by learning outcomes and satisfaction(ability to work in Teams,Groups- Ability to lead and follow).
Documentation through videos, photos and Product outcomes of students.
Bring in different Assessment Systems according to the plan and Topics (The Students
To criticize is very easy. To experience the unseen co-operation and rhythm TGES members extend is a blessing. Being involved in a process which not only involves various people but also departments installs a feeling of FAITH in Team and TGES System.
The feedback we get after each process is very enriching. It is only at TGES that such opportunities are created, passed on and executed.
